Visit a Traditional Village

What makes JammuWOW such a fun place to visit is that it has rural vibes alongside a touch of modernity. JammuWOW is a stone’s throw from Suchani – a traditional Indian village. The lives of many villagers in Suchani have remained unchanged for decades, if not longer. Only recently have some modern influences begun to creep into this village. Most people in Suchani have access to the internet. Children especially know their way around the online world.

The adults all speak the traditional language – Dogri. Jobs and duties are still assigned along traditional lines. While everyone has a mobile phone, most people still visit each other’s homes to have meaningful conversations. People go out of their way to help each other out. If you’ve got a flat tire, your neighbours have got your back!

Near JammuWOW, youngsters gather to play volleyball and cricket. Also, nearby is a traditional bathing pool. The pool was built centuries ago. Along its corners are stairs leading to the water below. These stairs were demarcated along traditional caste lines. Each caste’s stairs were different. Everyone in Jammu now has a bathroom so the pool is never used. Yet its presence at JammuWOW harkens people back to a time when modern conveniences were absent and one’s role in society was determined by birth.
